A senior Foreign Service Officer with more than 20 years of experience in the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Information Agency, will serve as a Diplomat-in-Residence at UCLA for the 2003-04 academic year. Don Terpstra is one of 16 senior Foreign Service Officers serving as Diplomats-in-Residence at universities throughout the United States. 

As a Diplomat-in-Residence at UCLA, Terpstra’s duties include counseling students on foreign service and other career opportunities in the State Department and the U.S. Government, conducting information sessions on the Foreign Service exam and foreign service in general, and representing the Department of State at career fairs. While at UCLA, his home department will be the Department of Policy Studies. 

Terpstra has served 16 years abroad at U.S. Embassies in Turkey, Chile, Peru, Bolivia, Panama, and Uruguay, with additional experience as a teacher in Colombia. Overseas he has performed the duties of press attaché, cultural attaché, embassy senior public affairs officer, and deputy chief of mission.
